…to Oude Werf in the historic heart of the Cape Winelands’ capital of Stellenbosch. Here, on the site of our country’s first church – which coined our name: ‘the old churchyard’ – our intimate 58-room hotel blends contemporary comfort and period-inspired ambiance with the same easy, personal care we’ve offered guests for two centuries as South Africa’s oldest continuously-operating hotel. Welcome to our Stellenbosch landmark. Please come in!

A special hotel in Stellenbosch
We stayed in Oude Werf in May 2016 as part of a package organised by Premier Holidays. The hotel is in a fantastic position in the centre of Stellenbosch. The hotel reception staff were friendly and efficient – quickly parking our car and checking us into the hotel. The hotel is an unusual mix of traditional and modern, but it works really well and the overall feel is smart, relaxing and friendly.    Our room was excellent – everything you could need and an absolutely humongous bathroom. The room was spotless on arrival and throughout our stay. We didn’t stay in the hotel to eat in the evenings as there was so much on offer in Stellenbosch. We did find time to drink champagne in the bar! Breakfast was relaxed. Great service and selection of food. While in Stellenbosch take time to visit Franschhoek and a winery or two (we loved our visit to Bodega).

Very central hotel

Loved our stay at this very clean, quirky hotel. A mix of modern and old. Our room was one of the modern ones, very big with a huge bed. Shower and separate bath, good Wi-Fi and lovely breakfasts. The staff were very helpful. Parking was down a steep slope at the side of the hotel, but valet parking was available if needed. The pool was small but adequate; there was even 4 different bottles of sunscreen available for use at the poolside. The hotel was central to walk to the many restaurants and bars in the town. Would happily return if in the area again.

Lovely hotel in central Stellenbosch

We stayed here for six nights at the end of January. The hotel is ideally situated for all restaurants and shops. Our bedroom no.127 was very spacious with a large balcony overlooking the courtyard and pool. It was kept spotlessly clean at all time. Just a minor problem with not enough coat hangers but this was soon rectified with a call to reception. We found all the staff very helpful and polite. I would like to say a special thank you to Anton who arranged a Swedish massage for me at short notice. Also our appreciation of the quick action taken by staff to return our iPads, after they were inadvertently left in our room, upon check out. The breakfast was very good with lots of choices. We ate in the restaurant twice in the evenings and the food was well cooked with good presentation and very keenly priced. We would certainly recommend this hotel when visiting Stellenbosch.

Historic building in heart of Stellenbosch

The room was beautifully decorated and the bathroom very spacious, modern and clean. The bed was extremely luxurious and comfortable. The hotel is well situated and in the heart of the pretty, albeit somewhat touristy, part of Stellenbosch. One is surrounded by quaint galleries and shops as well as a variety of magnificent coffee shops and eateries. The outside area of the hotel is lovely as is the decor in general. Porters and reception staff were very helpful and friendly.

Oude Werf is very, very good

This hotel really is a very good option when looking for a place to stay in Stellenbosch. Extremely centrally located – we were able to walk everywhere we needed to. The only time we needed our car was to visit the wine farms. Plenty great hotels and wine bars within easy walking distance. The hotel itself is upmarket. Big rooms that are well appointed. Bathrooms are large with separate bathtub and shower. The staff were friendly and breakfasts superb. If you can get a room here, this is a hotel I can recommend.

Stunning, refined ambience in a delightful town

Firstly, the hotel is ideally positioned on one of the busiest tourist streets in Stellenbosch but that in no way detracts from our stay. It is a very old hotel with new buildings added and despite the contrast in decor between the very old fashioned traditional decor in the bar and reception, which is beautiful, and the very modern rooms, it still gives a lovely ambience to the whole place. The rooms are comfortable, airy and clean. Our room looked onto the courtyard area where there is a swimming pool one can relax next to, at the end of busy days. There is a restaurant within and outdoor seating areas. The food was presented artistically and tasted really nice and the menu choice was very good also. I found the staff to be helpful and welcoming and would love to stay there again in the future. There is a carpark for hotel guests and Valet parking is offered. Overall an excellent stay. Everything was delightful.
